Ok, so this place is touristy and the decor is Dominican folklore. But, expect to be entertained and well-fed at this Dominican landmark. The food is great and the prices are unbeatable. The staff waits tables, cooks the food, and dons costumes to entertain the patrons and makes sure a good time is had by all. Look out for the woman who dances on the bottle! Don't forget to leave a really nice tip.

If you are looking for something special then you should check out La Bricciola. This is one of the best restaurants in Santo Domingo specializing in Italian fare. The decor (2 converted 16th-century mansions w/open-air courtyard), service, food and ambience are without peer. La Bricciola is a little more upscale, so you should dress appropriately. Casual dress is fine, but leave the shorts at home.

You don't go to this restaurant for the decor or the plastic outdoor tables. The star here is the exquisitely prepared Italian and International dishes. Check out the Pastas, Lasagna, Salmon or anything else and you will not be disappointed. Owned by 2 Italian gentleman who are very welcoming and accommodating. This is one of Monaga's favorite restaurants in Santo Domingo.

Helpful Dining Tips:
In most Dominican restaurants service can be slow and inattentive. This is true of even the most expensive restaurants. Just go with the flow, remember you are on vacation. A charge of 26% is added to each bill and it breaks down to a 16% gov't. tax (ITIBIS) and 10% gratuity. If you are really pleased with the service you can add another 5-10% tip (or more, if you like). The tip is split amongst the entire staff. Lastly, go over your bill very carefully and if at all possible, pay with cash. Most restaurants listed here are located in, or near the Colonial Zone. There are many great restaurants located all over the city.
